What is miraDry

What is miraDry?

For most of us sweating is unsettling in our daily activities.  Looking for the strongest antiperspirants, painstakingly removing underarm stains from clothes, and avoiding social activities can be discouraging. That’s why Skin City is excited to introduce the new non-invasive procedure – miraDry, which reduces underarm sweating, also called as Hyperhidrosis. . By eliminating the sweat and odor glands, you can feel confident that your underarms will remain dry in any situation. The hanpiece device heats and destroys the underarm sweat glands while protecting and cooling the top layers of skin. miraDry is a treatment that is suitable for both men and women.

Staying at the forefront of new medical technologies, we’re India’s largest Super Speciality Skin Clinic to offer the FDA approved miraDry® procedure.

So, Let’s Get To Know What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidros

Hyperhidrosis is a medical name for excessive sweating. It is also called as primary hyperhidrosis as opposed to secondary hyperhidrosis, which refers to perspiration that is caused by another medical condition.

Hyperhidrosis can occur in two basic forms — focal hyperhidrosis and general hyperhidrosis

1. Focal hyperhidrosis causes excess sweating in one or two body parts.

2. The hands, feet, and underarms are particularly common sites for localized hyperhidrosis.

Excessive sweating that is partial to the underarm area is also called axillary hyperhidrosis, whereas extreme sweating of the hands or feet is known as palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. General hyperhidrosis refers to excess sweating that occurs over much of the body.

Why Does miraDry® Treatment Work For Hyperhidrosis?

For people who suffer from excessive underarm sweating, miraDry is a good treatment option to consider. miraDry is the only procedure that provides permanent results without surgery. It is considered as a safe, effective and lasting 2nd line treatment option, that’s a clinically proven, non-invasive procedure.

Pre-miraDry Instructions Before & After a miraDry Treatment:

  • Shave both underarms 4-6 days before the procedure. Do not shave after that so short hair is visible to help identify the area to be treated.
  • Do not plan on wearing a sleeveless shirt in public for at least a week post procedure as the area will be discolored and swollen.
  • Purchase over the counter Hibiclens cleanser. Wash your armpits in the shower daily with it for 1 week before the procedure.

How Does miraDry® Treatment Work?

A safe, non-invasive, clinically proven procedure, miraDry uses thermal energy which is delivered to the skin using a handpiece. The energy is cautiously targeted to the area where the sweat glands are found and are destroyed. Sweat glands do not grow back, so the procedure gives a long lasting reduction in sweat. miraDry® is recommended by industry experts as a safe, effective and lasting treatment option.

What goes on during the treatment is actually pretty simple. The miraDry procedure is performed in the comfort of our clinic and typically takes an hour. The MiraDry System uses thermal energy that targets and eliminates the sweat and odour glands in your underarm. Goodbye, sweat stains!

Step 1

After your underarm is numbed, our clinician will place the miraDry device handpiece directly on your skin, lining it up with the marking grid that has been applied to your underarm.

Step 2

Next, the handpiece is activated. You will feel slight suction as your skin and glands are brought closer to the surface for maximum results.

Step 3

Finally, the thermal energy is delivered and the sweat and odour glands are eliminated. All the while, the system is cooling to protect your skin and maximize your comfort.

Is miraDry Only For Armpits?

miraDry® procedure provides a safe and lasting solution to excessive underarm sweating. This same treatment is also known as miraSmooth, due to the FDA-cleared benefit of underarm hair removal and a reduction of underarm odor that result from the procedure. It is the latest in non-invasive technology that provides a significant reduction of underarm sweat, eliminating the sweat glands. miraDry is designed for patients with excessive underarm sweating (primary axillary hyperhidrosis) over the age of 18 and it cannot be used on minors or anywhere else on the body.

Is miraDry Treatment Permanent?

Once it’s done, the sweat glands are gone forever. You can expect an 82% decrease in sweat and odor after just one or two treatments of miraDry, and results are generally visible immediately. Results are meant to be permanent—sweat and odor glands are destroyed and will not regenerate in the future. Specific peripheral benefits include:

  • Increase in confidence
  • Clean and free of sweat stains clothing
  • No more odour
  • Dressing choices widen

How Long Will My miraDry Results Last?

Unlike Botox® injections, one of the other popular treatments for underarm sweat, miraDry® produces long lasting results. When the targeted sweat glands are destroyed, they cannot regenerate, so they will not be able to produce sweat in the future. Most patients can achieve these results in just one treatment, though some will require an additional session. However, for those who do prefer Botox® injections, our board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants can provide exceptional results.

What If miraDry Doesn’t Work? Are There Any Side Effects?

The procedure leaves the armpits red and swollen. Regular use of ice packs and over-the-counter painkillers is recommended for the first few days. It is best to schedule the treatment for a date when you have no plans for the coming week. After a month, you should be in good shape and notice that the sweat under their armpits has been greatly reduced.

The immediate post-treatment side effects (e.g., swelling and numbness) are usually short-lived. Only very rarely does the numbness persist. The long-lasting common (and welcome) side effect is a decrease in armpit hair. Other common side effects and typical recovery periods reported by Dr. Dhepe are:

  • Swelling in the treated area (1-8 weeks)
  • Soreness, discomfort or tenderness (2-3 weeks)
  • Altered sensation in and around the treatment area (1-12 weeks)
  • Redness from the apparatus suction (2-3 days)
  • Bruising at the injection sites (2-3 days)

Bumps or lumping in the armpit (4-6 weeks)

Dr. Dhepe Also Reports Some Less Common Side Effects:

  • Swelling in adjacent arm or torso (1 week)
  • Hyperpigmentation (up to 8 weeks)
  • Soreness in arm or shoulder due to procedure positioning (2-3 days)
  • Numbness or tingling in arm due to anesthesia (less than one day)
  • Feeling like there is a tight band gripping the treated area (up to 8 weeks)
  • Small blisters or rashes in the treated area (2-3 weeks)

How Safe Is miraDry?

miraDry has a strong safety record. You may have some local swelling or soreness after the procedure and this can last up to a few weeks. Some patients have short-term altered sensation in the skin of the underarm or upper arms which gradually disappears over the weeks. We will discuss all these with you during your consultation with us.

What Is The Cost Of miraDryTreatment In India?

miraDry treatment majorly depends on your condition and the mode of treatment. We recommend that you consult with our doctor first before opting for treatment to discuss how severe your axillary hyperhidrosis is. If it can be successfully controlled using antiperspirants, then that is usually your best solution. If something else is required, the first choice is miraDry. Paying the miraDry price makes sense if you can afford it and if your condition is unbearable.
